ISLAMORADA PRIORITIES
For the past 20 years, the same issues have continued to confound the Village Council. In fact, it’s painful to watch them handle the challenges of the day, never mind an inability to address the future.
Ensuring our fishing guides and boat captains, and all the businesses that depend on their leadership.
Florida Bay needs protecting and defending and always will.
Our water is our economy, we should behave like it and fiercely protect it. The sugar lobby was gunning for our water in 2022's legislative session, and darn near got their way. Our own village's lobbyists worked against our interests.
That's shameful.
ISSUES & CHALLENGES
The Village Council needs to begin a new way of looking at the budget. We must start with a zero-based budget to get our fiscal house in order. We can't just keep raising taxes.
Whether it's the thorny issues of building permits, transfers of development rights, and transparency
and accountability, we've got to address each to protect the quality of life for all who live and visit our beautiful home.
It's past time to finalize the Fills and get it right. It is the side of a highway, not a park. If we need more amenities in the parks we've got, then let's have community discussions and plan for it.
We need to seriously address workforce housing, every year they've wasted time not addressing it. We can't turn back the clock, so forward-thinking is a must.
The public is unsatisfied by the little information made available to us related to how illegal vacation rentals are being dealt with.
It never happens, but we must make traffic impacts a key component of every project brought before the Council for approval. It's just as crucial we work with all Keys communities for a Keys-wide solution.
KNOWLEDGE IS POWER
We will continue to ensure the public is kept abreast of all issues of importance.
But we need your voice. It is up to all of us.
